RA recently sat down with Nico Barreda, an undergrad student at SCI-Arc who is interning with us for the summer. His work has been displayed at SCI-Arc’s Spring Shows in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
When did you first know you wanted to be an architect?
Since I was little and liked building Legos and drawing fantasy structures.
What inspires you? What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about the fusion of art and architecture and being able to express the beauty and importance of built structures.
What experiences shaped you as an architect?
Growing up, I was surrounded by a very creative community that encouraged me to keep exercising my creativity.
Which project(s) have you worked on reflect who you are as a designer? How/why?
Every one of my projects is very personal. I always seek to find a connection between what will be designed and how it applies to my interests.
What is your personal mantra? Your professional goal?
My main goal is to express the beauty of architecture and its interdisciplinary fields.
What is a little-known fun fact about you?
I geek out on math and science, but especially have an obsession with zoology :)
